Bold and novelistic. Sheds light upon the genesis of the Montessori approach, about disability, difference and feminism at the beginning of the 20th century.

Starring Jasmine Trinca in the title role, the illuminating historical drama from debut writer/director Léa Todorov tells the story of the famed titular Italian physician and educator who invented a teaching method that is still being used today in 35,000 schools bearing her name across the globe.

At the turn of the 20th century, Lili d’Alengy, a famous Parisian courtesan, has a shameful secret – her daughter Tina, born with a disability. Unwilling to care for a child who threatens her reputation and career, she flees to Rome where she meets Maria Montessori ((Jasmine Trinca, Fortuna), a doctor who is developing a revolutionary teaching method for children labelled as ‘idiotic’. But Maria too has a secret – a child born out of wedlock – and she is soon forced to choose between her career and her child…

Together, the two women will help each other win their place in this man's world and make history.
